Only He Can Heal The Heart

“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.” John 14:1

This scripture is quoted at funerals a lot. It is probably considered a passage that brings comfort to the heart of families who are in bereavement. I thought about this scripture because just recently I received a phone call that one of my Pastor friend’s son was killed last night. What a sad situation. How does one find comfort in such a tragedy?

“Let not your heart be troubled” lends an insinuation that we have at least some power or control over how much our heart is troubled. Leaving the heart the way it is without belief and trust in God may bring depression, devastation and a mental state of despair. But if we believe in the Lord, trust him and allow him to comfort us, we have a better chance of getting through the situation.

This word is not just for losing loved ones. It is for everything that besets us. Things that trouble our hearts such as death, emotional, physical, and financial issues can be met head on with the word of God. The word of God stands strong no matter what the situation. Decide to trust your heart to the father in heaven. Only he can heal the heart.
