The Praise Test

“The crucible for silver and the furnace for gold, but man is tested by the praise he receives” Proverbs 27:23

“The praise we receive from others tests us as to how we will respond either in pride or in humility. An attitude of pride reveals self-deception in our hearts, for we do not realize that what we are and what we have done are largely due to God and others. Our actions must never be done for praise or self glory, but must flow from our commitment to God. When we pass the test of praise, it confirms that we are living to please God rather than other humans and that our hearts are pure and your spirit one with God.” (NIV, study notes)

We all like to be appreciated for who we are and what we do.  Acknowledgment feels good. But we must remember that the old saying is true, “No man is an island.” In other words, whatever talents we have, and whatever blessings that we have, we are to be humble and especially when others gives us praise. The more people give us praise and our accomplishments, the more our hearts are tested. Will we really take all of the credit or will we acknowledge our support system and all those who helped us along the way? #thepraisetest
