“Surely God is my help; the Lord is the one who sustains me.” Psalms 54:4 NIV
I love this scripture. It gives me hope and keeps me going. Being happy every day is a wonderful forte for me. It is my personal goal to find a reason to be happy every single day in spite of troubles and challenges. Surely God is my help and he helps me to remember what is important and why I should be thankful. But I really love the second part of the verse that says, “The Lord is the one who sustains me.” The dictionary defines the word “sustain” like this: to support, hold, or bear up from below; bear the weight of, as a structure. Well that is awesome because there are some days that I need the Lord to support me, hold me up from below and definitely bear the weight of problems and issues. And of course it goes without saying that I am the “structure” that he is holding up. Have you ever needed God to sustain you and hold you up? Losing a loved one is an example of that need for God to sustain you. When I think of my parents I am in need of being sustained. They are deceased but were great parents and worked in ministry together as a Pastor and Evangelist. I am so grateful that they gave me the most important thing in life. They introduced me to Jesus. They knew that I would need the Lord to sustain my life, especially after losing them. Surely God is my help and the Lord is the one who sustains me. He is your help and he will sustain you.
