Blessed

“If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all nations on earth. All these blessings will come upon you and accompany you if you obey the Lord your God: You will be blessed in the city and blessed in the country. The fruit of your womb will be blessed, and the crops of your land and the young of your live stock calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks…You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out…” Deuteronomy 28:1-7

In this chapter the Israelites are receiving instruction on life and living and obedience and disobedience. If they fully obey the Lord’s commands, God promised to tremendously bless them. They will be blessed in the city and in the fields, blessed when they come and go, the fruit of their wombs are blessed, their barns will be overflowing, the land will be blessed, the Israelites would be the head and not the tail,  they would be respected as being above and not beneath and many other blessings. All of this comes with their obedience.  On the other hand, there is a list of horrific events that would befall them if they were disobedient to God.

I took some time to read what would happen to them if they were disobedient. It was promised that they would be cursed.  Total devastation!  I don’t know about you but I am not interested in living a life that brings curses. It is my desire to please the Lord. If it takes being obedient to his word, though it may not always be easy, then that is what I want to do. I want to be blessed and not cursed. It all has to do with the will. If we can surrender our will to the Lord, we could elevate quickly. God’s favor would be upon our lives without measure. I want to be blessed, so I am going to be obedient. How about you?
